With the Aussies taking the lead and the series away from India plenty of questions lie in front of the Indian team on the reasons for the failure and possibly the way they approached this series. Many would have thought that Dhoni's men would steal the series comfortably with the fact that this Aussie squad was the one of the least strong one to travel India. On the other hand Indians going with full Batting strength and decent bowling attacking managed only to win couple of matches and loosing twice as many along with the series.
It was a collective failure from the Indian squad which didn't capitalize on the early lead and was inconsistent in its batting.Every other batsmen from the Indian team had good scores in each of the matches but the collective effort for building partnerships and finishing the match was missing.Though it lost by narrow margin on the fifth ODI chasing 350 the team has to blame itself for the kind of temperament it showed after the departure of Sachin who was masterful as ever.Indian bowling attack seemed pretty ordinary against the Aussie line up which was not the best.Harbhajan's form with the Ball was not exiting and Nehra after returning to the team after quite a while needs some time to get back to the form.
With the series against the Lankan's starting next week one would wish Dhoni to solve the mysteries in the Indian bowling lineup. The Srilankan batting lineup is consistent with players who are used to the wickets of the sub continent.Expecting the returns of Dravid,Lakshman and Zaheer ,still the Indian top order would need to fire.Shewag and Gambhir would like batting together again at the top with Gambhir expecting to continue with his dream run.Dhoni will still require the little maestro Sachin to take his form from the ODI series with the middle order likely to get further boost with the return of Lakshman.Getting the right combination for the first test would be crucial for Dhoni.
Now the Pressure is back on Dhoni's men to win the final ODI for consolation and start the test series on a positive note.
